PPJ Framework 2011 - What's New

See what's new in the PPJ Framework 2011 release. We have added features that we believe are important to the enterprise-grade software that now relies on the PPJ Framework and once upon a time was based on the Gupta/Centura/Unify technology.

All the features we have added are currently impossible to achieve with Team Developer and would require licensing additional third party components for plain-vanilla Winforms applications.

This release marks the beginning of a major development push on our side with the integration of the PPJ Cloud and the PPJ Web with the PPJ Framework. These two components will be added to the release (very soon) in beta stage and will be updated continuously as we use them in projects.

Fully Integrated Spell Checker

We have integrated the industry standard Hunspell library with all the editable controls in the PPJ Framework: SalDataField, SalMultilineField, SalComboBox, SalTableColumn, VisRichEdit.

The spell checker automatically loads the dictionary for the default installed language or the one related to the language indicated in the CultureInfo property for the control. Different controls can spell check using different languages.

Enabling the spell checker is as simple as setting the EnableSpellChecked property to true.

Excel-Like Filter for Table Windows

The new PPJ Framework uses the latest release of the FlexGrid from ComponentOne with a powerful new feature that allows developers to expose a simple Excel-Like filter dialog allowing users to rapidly filter rows on the screen.

You can now enable this new feature on any SalTableWindow controls and SalFormTableWindow forms by setting the AllowFiltering property to true.

Filter dialogs are automatically localized to the local Windows language and allow a great dal of customization.

 Office 2010 Skins

We have included the three new Office 2010 skins in the PPJ Framework to match the new three Visual Styles that are now supported by the integrated Ribbon Bar.

Existing applications can immeditely look like the modern Office 2010 forms running on Windows 7.

Of course you can always download and use any of the hundreds available skins compatible with Microsoft's msstyles format.

Stimulsoft Reporting Engine

Starting from PPJ Framework 2011 we have included the new Stimulsoft Reporting Engine. This is the first official release of the supporting module for Stimulsoft.

Support of the Stimulsoft engine is connected to the completion of the new translation engine in the Ice Porter tool.

Stimulsoft is an incredibly powerful and flexible reporting tool. Read our blog about it and go on their web site for more details.

New Installers and Project Structure

Our new installers make it a little bit easier and more pleasant to install the PPJ Framwork binaries, source code, utilities and translation tools.

This is important especially because some parts of the PPJ Framework 2011 will be added and updated in a continuous development fashion throughout this year.

PPJ Cloud Update

The PPJ Cloud module is already available in beta form on our download section. The final first release has been pushed back to June 20th.

We are closing  the final issues and are adding an easy interface to access the underlying WFC components to handle directly endpoints and authentication.

PPJ Web Update

The PPJ Web  is a major undertaking and while it is already used in pilot projects, we expect this module to be in beta at least for the remaining of this year.

We will keep implementing features and fix issues on an ongoing basis. Being able to run migrated desktop applications entirely on the server side and display a rich user interface using Ajax, jQuery and XSLT on the client is such a powerful feature that we are taking the quality of the implementation very seriously.
